Apprenticeship Program

Providing Opportunity Through Exceptional Construction Training

Quality instructors, on-the-job training and teamwork – that’s the difference between our industry-leading training program and other apprenticeship options. When you become a part of the TP Mechanical family, we invest in your future.

Our apprenticeship programs all consist of a minimum of 8,000 on-the-job training hours and 576 hours of classroom learning over the course of the 4 years. We also offer a wide variety of classes outside the core required apprenticeship classes to help you broaden your skills and challenge yourself.

“My experience with the apprenticeship program was extremely positive and very rewarding. I had the opportunity to work with knowledgeable journeymen in multiple disciples of our trade, including plumbing, pipefitting, hydronic heating and HVAC while also receiving instruction in the classroom.”

— Ben Smith, Journeyman Plumber

Quality Instructors

Our instructors have years of industry experience, and most of them are working in the field. TP Mechanical leaders are selected to teach in our apprenticeship program and in our continuing education classes because of their superior skill – demonstrated on the job site – as well as their commitment to and skill in training.

On-the-job Training

We learn from doing. You will get the chance to put the knowledge you acquire in the classroom to work in the field alongside the same people you learn from and attend class with. We support you and challenge you at the same time, enhancing your skills and delivering a sense of accomplishment.

Teamwork

Projects are successful because of teamwork, and coordination among different specialties is critical. At TP Mechanical, we offer training in three different trades. You’ll understand where your work fits with others and practice teamwork in the field.

We complete your training with an end-of-year challenge that teams students from varying skill levels and disciplines on a joint project.

Our goal – at the end of the four-year course, you are a vital asset to the company. We want you to continue down a path of learning and experience to become a leader at TP Mechanical.

Fire Protection

Installation of fire protection systems is critical to every commercial construction project. In this series, you will learn what is required for several State of Ohio fire licensing tests. The standard curriculum includes the NFPA series of code books. You also have the opportunity to learn the processes that go into a fire protection project from start to finish, as well as study the design and fabrication aspects of the fire protection field.

Plumbing

The plumbing path of classes will take you on a diverse journey of learning the piping trade. Classes include one welding class and one international code class in each of the four years. You will also learn the basics of hydronics, steam and cooling systems.  By the end of your training, you will be prepared for the Journeyman test for the city you will be working in.

Sheet Metal

This course takes you through several SMACNA books. You will learn not only HVAC systems design and construction, but also learn about Indoor Air Quality and Commissioning. Classes include one welding class for each of the four years, as well as fuel gas code and mechanical code classes.
