TP Mechanical at the Heart of UC Athletics

At TP Mechanical, we thrive in fast-paced, high-impact environments that demand precision, planning, and expert execution. Our recent work at the University of Cincinnati’s Sheakley Indoor Practice Facility and Athletics Performance Center exemplifies that commitment. This 136,000 square-foot complex includes 40,000 square feet dedicated to the indoor practice field and 96,000 square feet for the multi-level performance center. Designed to support Bearcats athletics well into the future, the facility now stands as a flagship project for the University of Cincinnati, Messer Construction Co., and TP Mechanical.

Precision Under Pressure

Between March 2024 and May 2025, every milestone mattered. One of our earliest challenges was delivering temporary heating to keep the project moving. To meet that need, approximately 100% of the HVAC piping scope was fabricated and installed, along with 70% – 80% of the permanent sheet metal ductwork, including both temporary fabric and sheet metal ductwork.

Additionally, our team committed to having all materials on-site within just four weeks of signing the coordinated drawings, an ambitious promise that we delivered on. This early success played a critical role in maintaining the aggressive construction schedule and marked a key milestone for TP Mechanical.

Scope and Systems

TP Mechanical was responsible for providing complete HVAC and plumbing systems, including:

      • Domestic water
      • Waste and vent systems
      • Steam, hot water, and chilled water systems
      • Sheet metal
      • Hydrotherapy pools
      • Building automation controls
      • HVAC and plumbing equipment

A dedicated crew of 32 professionals worked closely with other trades across all phases of the project. With staggered access to various work areas and early turnover deadlines for specific spaces, careful planning was essential. Weekly site walks, synchronized deliveries, and continuous communication ensured smooth, efficient progress from start to finish.

Innovation in Action

This project also served as a pilot for our use of OpenSpace, an AI-powered construction platform utilizing 360° cameras and computer vision to create a visual record of the job site. From the football field to individual rooms and floors, we tracked progress in real time, transforming how we manage and document work. What started as an innovation is now becoming standard practice across TP Mechanical projects.

Partnership

We are proud to have once again collaborated with Construction Manager Messer Construction Co. on this high-profile initiative. Their partnership and commitment to excellence were critical to the success of this project. From the TP Mechanical President to the first-year laborer in the field, this project was successful because of a full team effort and unwavering commitment at every level. As TP Assistant Project Manager Bradley Ashford puts it: “I won’t work on a cooler project in my career.”
